Sue Lawrence - 09:45pm Mar 24, 2000 Irish
I'm trying to find my relatives in Ireland. My Grandmother told me that her
great-great grandfather came from County Down. His name was William M.
McAnally and he was born March 13, 1801, most probably in Ireland. I really
want to know of any relatives that are still living, who can let me know
something about yourselves. I am compiling a book of all of your relatives
in the United States, with many pictures to boot! The book is strictly for
the family. I hope someone will see this and have information for me. Thank
you and much gratitude. Sue at: email@example.com

Mary Sherk - 06:58am Nov 13, 2000 Irish (#4 of 272)
Looking for a Daniel Magorian who was born in County Down before 1800. He was in Virginia in 1810, a grown man with a family. Do not know his date of birth or death. He was alive in 1833 when his son James wrote to him. We have a copy of that letter. His grandson, Thomas, believed Daniel was born in County Down and married a Mary Murphy. He also believed D. was Catholic and M. a protestant, but that they married in Virginia. In Winchester, VA, Daniel settled near a Hamilton family and an O'Neil family. Could they have known each other in Northern Ireland? We also know there was a Daniel Magorian on the flax growers list of 1796, so was a flax grower or a weaver.
Any clues that might help us out?

Charles Crain - 09:36am Oct 1, 2002 Irish (#27 of 272)
I am looking for the Ulster Irish ancestors of my great-grand
parents , William and Jean Crain. William was born, in 1704 in
County Down , Ulster , Ireland and died in 1780, in Hanover
Township, Dauphin, Pennslyvania. Jean ? , was born in 1705, in
Ireland. I descend, from their son , Ambrose. They say ,our name
in Ireland was spelled ,O' Croideain, and then ,after it was
changed to a more English and proper spelling, it was spelled,
Crean, Cryan, Craine. I have heard , the English at the time had
a leave , or starve, and die policy ,towards my family, and other
Irish families in Ulster at that time, and some had prices upon
their heads. William and Jean , chose to leave for America in
1732. I, desperately ,would like to find the family, for which I bear
the name, even though history, time, and misfortunes, and the
English have separated us from one another, I still feel bond and
a longing to know my family, Time and the English, took , so
much from us, we can't even find our love ones ,in land of our
ancestors. Any assistance in my search and anything , that you
can share with me on my family the Crain"s or O' Croidheain's ,
will be greatly appreciated, and very, well received. Made God

Kathy Gray - 11:08am Feb 20, 2005 Irish (#85 of 272)
Hi there, I'm searching for information on Thomas Moore of Ireland who was living in Liverpool around 1880's. His partner (possibly married) was a Sarah Boardman. They had 2 children, Hannah born in Nantwich Union Workhouse, Cheshire in 1886 (Thomas was a Silk Dyer at this time and lived in lodgings in Hawk Street, Sandbach, Cheshire) and Thomas Jnr. born Macclesfield 1892. There is no trace of Thomas Snr. after this time and his wife, Sarah, is shown as Widow on the 1901 census for Macclesfield. He obviously died sometime between 1892 and 1900. Is there any website that I can visit to see if Thomas and Sarah were actually married - it would have been, I presume, around 1880'ish. Sarah was born in 1859 so I am 'presuming' (again) that Thomas would have been a similar age. I have virtually no other information but am desparate to find my real roots and this is all I have to go on. Please, can anyone help me?? If so, I can be contacted on:- email@example.com

I'm searching for ancestors who were born in Ireland in the mid-19th.century and emigrated to Manchester, England some time before 1886, when my grandmother was born. Family legend suggests one was from Limerick and the other was from Ardglass. I believe that one of my great-grandfathers was (William?) Taylor and his 'wife' was Margaret McDonald, however there is scant evidence for William's first name and nothing to confirm his 'wife's' name. As you can gather from the inverted commas, there is a question about their marriage. I believe that (William)Taylor was a saddler and harness maker. I'd be very grateful if anyone could shed light on these two people.

Im trying to find the Siblings of James Watson Close b. 13Aug1843, he was the son of John Close, Labourer, and at this point not 100% certain of the mother, tho i'm leaning towards "Elizabeth", as the family followed traditional naming paterns' and Jame's 1st daughter was named Elizabeth b. 1867, in Belfast. James Watson Close married Susannah Hedley 27 May 1866, at St Anne's in Belfast. As well they had the following children, Elizabeth b. 1867,d. 1870 Maggie b. 1868, Robert Henry b. 1870, Elizabeth b. 1871 James Watson b. 1873 Susanna & John (twins) b. 1877 wee namelss b. 1879 William b. 1881. It appears Robert, John, James and William are common Close family names. The Close's were of the presbyterian religion.
Invite any input or information.

I am looking for information about John Claney dob circa 1820. He married Nancy Mc Gill and had 4 sons Willam, Archibald, George and Alexander. He was born at Bangor, but think one child , at least was born at, Ballymede, Antrim. Maybe his wife came from there or he moved there.
He was a farmer. The three eldest sons came to Australia in the early 1860's,and selected land, and John came after his wife died somewhere around 1867 and brought the youngest son, Alexander with him.
I would like to know John Claney's siblings and parent's names.
Think one of his brothers was William, who came to Aust. then back to UK on Sussex 1868 , then on to USA in 1869. I have contacted one of his family there and believe they were brothers, but have no birth certificates to prove this. Story passed on in family says 3 brothers came to Aust. and two returned home. Has anyone any info about this family?.

I want to know where my Ancestors came from and who they were, I want to know my Great Great Great Grandparents, and I want to share this Information with my Sister and my Cousins in America. I also want to learn about the English Bloody Succesion and about the Collier's who were killed, Hanged, and taken on to Slave Ships to Collier's Bay in Australia. JOHN OWEN of NEWRY
I have a problem about tracing the parents and family of my great Grandfather JOHN OWEN.
Briefly the facts are as follows:
An old family Bible records that my great grandfather JOHN OWEN was born in Newry, N. Ireland in January 1832. I have confirmed this by finding the same information in the Index to Lloyd's Captains' Registers held at the Guildhall Library. John Owen was a seafarer and gained his Masters Certificate C8839 at Liverpool in 1856 and went on to work for the Wilson Line (Hull) until c. 1903. No descendant can recall that he ever revealed his antecedents. He just seems to 'appear' in Liverpool in January 1865 at the birth of his first child John [“Jack”] Richard Owen who also became a Master Mariner.
The same Bible also records that John Owen married Eliza (or Elisabeth) Robertson in April 1864 in the English Church at Leghorn [Livorno], Italy. The Chaplain the Rev. H.J.Huntington officiated; the British Consul Mr Alexander McBean and family were present. I could not find a reference to the marriage in the Register of Overseas Marriages held with the BMD Indexes. The English Church in Livorno closed in 1939. I have not yet been able to locate the Church records for 1832.
JOHN OWEN died in Hull Jan 1908 and Eliza died there in Mar 1931

Looking for the McNuff family from Newry.
I have traced my ggGrandfather as Hugh McNuff d. 1855, a Tailor from Newry, Ireland. His wife’s name is Mary (b. about 1811 in Ireland. I don’t know her surname). Their daughter Jane (b. about 1838) and oldest son James (b. about 1844) were both born in Newry and then between 1844 to 1847 they moved to Liverpool where their next two sons were born, Robert b. about 1847 and Henry (b. about 1849).
My gGrandfather, the son James McNuff, also a Tailor, married Margaret Cunningham (b. about 1846 in Newry). They were married in Liverpool June 27th 1864. Her father was James Cunnignham, a shoemaker.
The son Robert McNuff (d. 1916), also a Tailor, married a woman named Jane (no surname) and moved to London. They had five children- George, Henry, Jane, Ada and Sarah.
I hope to find out more about Hugh and Mary McNuff back in Ireland and also about Robert McNuff and his descendants in the London area.
Please contact me at JackGregory7@gmail.com. Thank you!
